CHRISTMAS Day used to be a struggle for attention for birthday girl Melissa Mercer, but from now on it’s set to be a triple treat.
The new mum, who was born on Christmas Day, 1987, now has someone to share her cake after the birth of Riley Thomas Cameron on Monday.The 19-year-old will know better than most parents how to deal with the double honours and ensure no one misses out.
The Loganholme mother said less than fond memories of her own birthday celebrations meant she had already planned separate celebrations for Riley.
“I actually hated it,” she said.
“I hated waiting all year for both occasions.”
Riley entered the world at 11.26am on Monday, putting the family’s Christmas celebrations on hold until later that afternoon.
“I had a feeling (he would be born on Christmas Day),” Ms Mercer said. “His due date wasn’t until December 30 so he’s five days early.”
Family and friends had been taking bets on Riley’s arrival date, but many were surprised at the result.
Riley is also the family’s first great-grandchild and grandchild.
Proud grandfather Steve Gresham, 47, said the extended family will now celebrate five birthdays around Christmas, making for a big month of festivities, and fewer dates to remember.
